Belmont Community Association

Summer 2018 BCA Newsletter

Thank you to all our existing members and welcome to all the new groups and bookings this year, for the Community Centre: Foster Care Associates, NHS Diabetes Group, DDR courses, Limitless Dance, Al-Anon, Nationwide DCM Training, DCC Family Group Conference, WEA Archaeology and Egyptian Archaeology which were fully booked and successful; Tai Chi organised a weekend course and we have a new Table Tennis League raring to go run by Paul Henderson.

At the Belmont Community School Site, welcome Sherburn Utd adult football group, and hopefully soon, DCFC under 11 Colts football team.

New security cameras have been fitted outside the entrance and we are now able to add the Performing Arts spaces to the BCA facilities for rent.

A substantial amount of improvement work has been undertaken at the Community Centre; modernisation of the toilets, extension and refurbishment of the kitchen, installation of Fire Doors to meet current regulations, new reception flooring and furniture and a fully accessible entrance door. A new Fire Alarm and blue security shutters have been installed this year.

During the summer we have been making improvements to the outside of the building and spending a Lottery Grant and savings on improving the look of the outside. In late August we will be re-flooring Room 2 (Hardy) with new vinyl tiles – this will improve the look of the room and will be easier to clean.

Unfortunately during this period of improvement the County Council has badly let us down in their delivery of bigger bins (for which we pay) which has led to a build up of unseemly rubbish. In addition the amazingly good weather and light nights has attracted more young people to the open spaces and the centre has become a bit of a target however we are working with the police who are keeping an eye on the problem, and have applied for further grant funding to replace the security light at the front of the building and install cameras.

We therefore thought it would be a good time to get some feedback from your group – Please score out of 4
1 – poor
2 – average
3 – better than average
4 – good!
